What is Dog Boarding?

In an ideal world, we could be with our dogs 24/7. Unfortunately, life often gets in the way, whether it’s long workdays, unexpected illnesses, vacations, or other commitments. When you can’t be there for your furry friend, dog boarding offers a reliable solution.

Dog boarding involves entrusting your dog to a professional facility that provides food, shelter, and playtime. These facilities, often referred to as kennels, doggy daycare, or pet hotels, offer a safe and comfortable environment for your pet.

Canine Country Club & Feline Inn provides a safe and loving environment for your furry friend when you can’t be home. Dog boarding offers many benefits, including socialization, professional care, and convenience. Your pup will have the opportunity to play with other dogs in a supervised setting, reducing boredom and loneliness. Canine Country Club & Feline Inn’s staff is comprised of experienced pet caretakers who will ensure your dog receives plenty of love and attention while you’re away. Whether you’re going on vacation, a business trip, or just need a day out, Canine Country Club & Feline Inn provides peace of mind, knowing your dog is in good hands.

Types of Dog Boarding

Every situation that takes you away from your dog is different, which is why there are several options for dog boarding. Here are some of the most common options to help you decide what’s best for your needs.

Kennel Boarding

This is standard boarding for overnight stays. It includes a private area for your dog inside a facility. Typically, the kennel boarding facility will feed your dog according to their regular schedule, ensure they are comfortable, and take them outside. Some kennel boarding facilities offer options for additional outside playtime.

Benefits:

      • Supervision from trained staff: Canine Country Club & Feline Inn’s staff is comprised of experienced pet caretakers who will ensure your dog receives plenty of love and attention.
      • Dedicated private space for your pup to lounge during the day: Your dog will have their own comfortable and secure space to relax.
      • Dedicated playtime outside and socialization: Your dog will have plenty of opportunities to play with other dogs in our supervised outdoor play areas.

Drawbacks:

      • Some dogs may become anxious if left alone in a new environment.

In-Home Boarding

Dogs who prefer wide open spaces instead of confining kennels may prefer in-home boarding. This type of boarding takes place in the home of a trusted boarding professional who cares for dogs as if they were their pets.

Advantages:

      • Offers more space and freedom for active dogs: Your dog will have more room to roam and play.
      • The boarder will have more time to bond with your dog: Your dog will receive individualized attention and care.
      • It can be more comfortable for pets: Some dogs may feel more at ease in a home environment.

Drawbacks:

      • Boarders can have multiple dogs or other pets at a time, potentially leading to increased stress or competition for attention.
      • There is a chance your dog will not like the boundary, which can cause stress. It’s important to meet the boundary in person before making a decision.
      • In-home boarding can be expensive: This option is often more costly than kennel boarding due to the personalized care and one-on-one attention provided.

Pet Sitting

A pet sitter may be better than boarding if you are not gone for long. Pet sitters will come to your home and watch your pet for some time. Sometimes, they will drop in daily to walk your dog and give it food and water. They can be a good fit if you have long workdays or will be away from the house for just a night.

Benefits:

      • Your dog doesn’t have to go anywhere! Your dog can stay in their familiar home environment.
      • You know what pets and other animals are in the environment: You can be sure your dog is safe and comfortable.
      • Your pet sitter can get to know your dog very well: Your pet sitter can tailor their care to your dog’s specific needs and preferences.

Drawbacks:

      • Your dog may not like the pet sitter (be sure to meet several before choosing one).
      • Your dog may get bored being in the same location.
      • You have to let someone into your home when you are not there.
      • Pet sitting can be expensive: Depending on the location and services provided, pet sitting rates can be comparable to or even higher than boarding fees.

What to Expect During Boarding

Bring your dog’s vaccination records with you at check-in, or send them to us beforehand. Dogs must have rabies, DHLPP, and Bordetella for kennel cough. As long as you have these records, check-in is quick and painless. We don’t like letting dogs linger, which can worsen separation anxiety.

Keep things positive, and reassure your doggo that they will have a great time during their stay! At pick-up, you will check out your pet and take care of any remaining payments before taking your dog home. Make sure you get back all of your dog’s belongings! Please note that pick-up is only available during our regular office hours.

Tips for a Stress-Free Boarding Experience

We highly recommend bringing your pup for an overnight stay before they have an extended stay. This can help them get familiar with our facility and be more comfortable returning. Bring your dog’s food and favorite toys to ease the transition.

Before you go, please provide as much information as possible about your dog’s needs, including feeding times, favorite snacks, favorite toys, and pertinent health information. You can also contact us during your dog’s stay by calling us during our standard office hours.
